Woman claims doctor perforated her colon during medical procedure

It is very important for medical professionals to act properly when performing medical procedures on patients. Negligence during medical procedures can cause a great deal of harm to patients.

Recently, a case has arisen in West Virginia involving a medical procedure and allegations of negligence. The case involves a woman who reportedly underwent a diagnostic colonoscopy at a hospital in West Virginia in March 2010.

According to the woman, the doctor who performed the colonoscopy committed negligence during the course of the procedure. Specifically, the woman claims that the doctor engaged in negligent actions which resulted in her colon getting perforated. The woman alleges that this, in turn, caused her to suffer a variety of harms including:

  • The development of a large infection
  • Injuries
  • Mental anguish
  • Having to undergo addition procedures

A lawsuit has been brought in a court in West Virginia by the woman in connection to these allegations. The above-mentioned doctor has been named as defendant in this lawsuit. It has been reported that this lawsuit is asking for compensatory damages. It will be interesting to see what happens in this medical malpractice case and how it is ultimately resolved.

Medical negligence like that alleged in this case can be extremely harmful to patients. Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to engage in only proper actions when performing medical procedures on patients. No patient should have to suffer harm because a medical professional acted negligently while providing them with care in relation to a medical procedure.
