Woman sues in connection to alleged left-behind surgical sponge

It is very important for surgeons in Connecticut to act properly when it comes to the tools and equipment they use during surgical procedures. When surgeons fail to do this, it can result in surgical objects getting left behind inside of patients. Left-behind surgical objects can expose patients to a wide variety of harms, including infections.

Recently, in another state, a medical malpractice case has arisen involving an alleged left-behind surgical object. The state in question is Washington.

The case involves a woman who underwent a surgical procedure at a hospital in Seattle in August 2009. The woman alleges that the surgeon who performed the procedure acted negligently during the surgery and that this negligence led to a surgical sponge getting left inside of her. According to court documents filed in relation to this case, the sponge was inside the woman for around four months before it was discovered and removed. The woman claims that she developed an infection as a result of this left-behind surgical object.

In connection to these allegations, a lawsuit has been brought by the woman against the surgeon and the organization which runs the hospital. Damages are being sought in this lawsuit.

As this case illustrates, sometimes, medical malpractice lawsuits are brought in connection to alleged incidents of surgeon negligence. Medical malpractice cases can involve a wide variety of issues and can have many complex aspects. Thus, having an experienced medical malpractice attorney on one's side can be very important when one is pursuing a medical malpractice claim.
