Woman sues hospital over alleged diagnosis errors

Delays in a patient receiving treatment for a condition can be very problematic. Such delays can give a condition more time to develop, which can lead to a patient suffering greater harms than they would have had the condition been treated in a more timely manner.

One thing that can lead to a delay in a condition being treated is when a diagnosis is negligently missed. Thus, one hopes that all medical professions and hospitals here in Connecticut avoid engaging in negligent conduct which could result in a failure to diagnose, such as: failing to adequately examine a patient, failing to conduct proper tests, failing to correctly read/interpret test results or failing to properly consider a patient's symptoms.

A case involving an alleged negligent failure to diagnose has recently come up in another state.

The case involves a hospital in Louisiana. The hospital is being sued for medical malpractice by a woman.

The woman says that she received care at the hospital's emergency room on Jan. 19, 2011. According to her, she was experiencing symptoms of shortness of breath and chest pain.

The woman alleges that she wasn't properly assessed and that other negligence occurred in relation to her care at the hospital. She claims that these things led to doctors at the hospital failing to diagnose two conditions she had: deep vein thrombosis and a pulmonary embolism.

According to the woman, the conditions were eventually detected during a later hospitalization. That hospitalization occurred on Jan. 28, 2011. The woman claims that she suffered several harms, including disfigurement and pain and suffering, as a result of the conditions not being detected prior to that point.
