Woman says she was given wrong drug by pharmacy

When people here in Connecticut need medical treatment, they will likely interact with a great number of medical professionals throughout the entire process -- not just physicians. Each person is trusted to provide their expertise to the best of his or her ability in the aim of making the patient well again. If the patient receives the incorrect treatment, the effects can be very harmful or even result in the patient’s death. One out-of-state woman says that’s what happened to her when a pharmacy provided her with the wrong drug.

The woman says that while she was prescribed Lamisil, she actually received the similarly named Lamictal. The former is meant to treat fungal infections, while the latter is meant for neurological conditions such as epilepsy and bipolar disorder. She claims that the pills caused her to have vertigo, blurry vision, aches and several other symptoms. She also says that she fell due to the dizziness that she experienced.

She has since filed suit against the pharmacist and pharmacy where she obtained the drug. She alleges that the pharmacist did not read the prescription correctly or inform her of any potential side effects. She also says that her symptoms affected her ability to work and caused her physical and mental pain.

There may be those here in Connecticut who can identify with this woman’s story. Some may find that the best course of action for them is to file a medical malpractice claim in the hopes that it may result in financial restitution. Such money might be useful in covering unexpected medical bills or other costs related to taking a wrong drug.
