Medical conditions commonly missed or misdiagnosed

Folks in Connecticut and elsewhere understand that a diagnosis is only as good as the doctor making it and the tools that he or she has to make it with. Some conditions are commonly misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. Therefore, it may be necessary for a patient to do his or her own research to fully understand what may be ailing him or her.

Thyroid dysfunction is among the most commonly misdiagnosed health issue. Of the 20 million Americans who may have it, 60 percent may not know about it because of a misdiagnosis or because they weren't diagnosed at all. Another common issue that may not properly be diagnosed is vitamin D deficiency. Symptoms may include fatigue and bone pain, and it could increase the risk of cancer or obesity.

Adrenal fatigue is a condition that isn't diagnosed properly at all times because it isn't even considered its own syndrome. Therefore, it may be less likely that a physician knows about the issue let alone be able to diagnose it properly. Complicating matters is the fact that adrenal fatigue features symptoms that are common for a variety of other ailments. Consequently, it can be hard to confirm an individual may be suffering from this.

If a patient experiences health issues because of a failure to diagnose a condition within a timely manner, it may be possible to proceed with a medical malpractice lawsuit. This may be possible if it can be proven that the doctor violated his or her duty of care by failing to make a proper diagnosis. If successful, a patient may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages and lost future earnings. Amounts may be determined in court or through informal settlement talks outside of court.
