It can be a very serious matter when a medical professional or medical facility acts negligently when providing care in connection to a pregnancy. Great harm can be caused when medical professionals or medical facilities commit such negligence. Such negligence can sometimes even result in an infant’s death.
Recently, a medical malpractice case involving allegations of negligent pregnancy-related care has arisen in Illinois. The case involves a hospital in Illinois. Reportedly, in November 2010, a pregnant woman received care at the hospital.
The woman alleges that the hospital was negligent in the care it provided her. Specifically, the woman claims that the hospital’s staff failed to properly diagnose the progression of her labor and failed to take proper actions in response to the progression of her labor. According to the woman, this alleged negligence resulted in her child being stillborn.
A lawsuit has been brought in a court in Illinois by the woman and the stillborn child’s father in connection to these allegations. The lawsuit names the above-mentioned hospital as defendant. According to the article on the Madison/St. Clair Record’s website which reported this story, damages are being asked for in this lawsuit.
As the allegations in this case underscore, pregnancy-related negligence can be extremely harmful. Thus, one hopes that medical professionals and medical facilities are held accountable when they engage in negligence like that alleged in this case. One also hopes that all medical professionals and medical facilities make sure to act properly when providing care in relation to a pregnancy.
