Woman Claims Negligent Misdiagnosis Caused Her to Undergo Unnecessary Mastectomy

Patients can suffer great harm when they are negligently misdiagnosed by a medical professional. For example, a negligent misdiagnosis can sometimes result in a patient undergoing an unnecessary surgery. Thus, it is very important for medical professionals to act properly when it comes to the diagnosing of patients.

Recently, a case involving an alleged negligent misdiagnosis has arisen in Illinois. The case involves a woman from Springfield, Illinois.

Reportedly, the woman had a tumor on her breast. The woman claims that she was seen by a doctor and that this doctor negligently misdiagnosed the tumor as being malignant when it was actually benign. According to the woman, this alleged negligent misdiagnosis resulted in her undergoing an unnecessary bilateral mastectomy and suffering a variety of harms including mental anguish, disfigurement and pain.

The woman has brought a lawsuit in a court in Illinois in connection to these allegations. One of the defendants in this lawsuit is the above-mentioned doctor. In this lawsuit, the woman is asking for damages.

As the allegations that have been made in this case underscore, it can be very harmful when medical professionals act negligently when it comes to the diagnosing of patients. No patient should have to suffer harm because they were negligently misdiagnosed by a medical professional.

Thus, one hopes that all medical professionals make sure to not commit diagnosis-related negligence when providing care to patients. One also hopes that medical professionals are held accountable when they commit such negligence and it causes harm to a patient.
