Mariajose Serrano

I was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. My family moved to the U.S. in 2017. The experience of moving to the U.S. opened my eyes to what it means to have opportunities available, but with them comes the need for hard work and sacrifices to reach your dreams.

Once I arrived in the U.S., I attended White Plains High School and graduated from there in 2018. Education is very important to me because my mother instilled in me many years ago that education will be beneficial to me throughout my entire life. Therefore, I decided to continue attending school. After graduating from high school, I began taking classes at Westchester Community College. I earned my Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from Westchester Community College within a period of 1½ years.

After completing my paralegal degree, I wanted to pursue a higher level of education in the field of law. I then attended Mercy College (Dobbs Ferry), and in 2022 I received my Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies, which made me a first-generation college graduate. During my time as a student at Mercy College, I achieved academic success, and I am a member of both the Honor Society and the President’s List. Additionally, during my time as a student, I joined Phi Theta Kappa. Maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.8 demonstrates my commitment as well as dedication to my education.

In March 2023, I started a new chapter in my professional career when I began working at Wocl Leydon.

I find it very rewarding to know that I can make a positive difference in someone’s life.

In general, my experiences throughout this period have helped shape me into a caring and diligent person who is intent on utilizing my education in law as a means to assist others.
